Alert Safety Products company logo

The most valuable and precious asset of any company is its employees.

Workplace safety is what protects them by managing the workplace environment and factors that affect the safety, health, and well-being of every employee. These factors include workplace violence, working conditions, chemical exposure, environmental hazards, or even drug and alcohol abuse. With so many potential hazards, the scope of workplace safety is wide and complicated to manage. Fortunately, there are several organizations that provide data from a plethora of research to help Environmental, Health, and Safety managers and other industry leaders prioritize efforts to maximize employee safety.

One such organization, well known to everyone is OHSA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) which was created through the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. Every year, they publish a list of Top 10 workplace safety hazards. Most elements on the list remain the same year after year but it is our mission to see accidents related to Powered Industrial Trucks, specifically forklifts, significantly decrease through our innovative forklift safety products.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has announced its preliminary Top 10 most frequently cited workplace safety standards for fiscal year 2021. NSC Safety+Health Associate Editor Kevin Druley introduced Patrick Kapust, deputy director of OSHA’s Directorate of Enforcement Programs, who presented the list virtually during the 2021 NSC Safety Congress & Expo, the world’s largest annual gathering of safety professionals.

The Top 10 for FY 2021 are:

  1. Fall Protection
  2. Respiratory Protection
  3. Ladders
  4. Scaffolding
  5. Hazard Communication
  6. Lockout/Tagout
  7. Fall Protection – Training Requirements
  8. Personal Protective and Lifesaving Equipment – Eye and Face Protection
  9. Powered Industrial Trucks
  10. Machine Guarding

Just as the scope of hazards is wide, so is the scope of solutions;

At ALERT Safety Products, we choose to focus on PIT (Powered Industrial Trucks) and have found several effective solutions. Of course, the paint or adhesive floor signs were already in place, but we took this one step further. We created Project ALERT connected with Microwave Sensors to warn pedestrians of potential forklifts crossing. These projectors are not only more visible and more effective than traditional methods but are also more cost-effective, more durable, and last longer. Floor stickers peel and fade, projectors never will and can be customized. We also have Office ALERT, a small LED display for offices and doorways to warn pedestrians of approaching forklifts before they step into the active Forklift aisle.

Active workplace safety is always better than passive, so we have also created our Dome Mirror ALERT with Microwave Sensors to detect approaching forklift traffic, turning a passive mirror into an active alarm. OSHA’s most recent estimates indicate that between 35,000 and 62,000 injuries occur every year involving forklifts and studies show that 70% of forklift accidents are preventable with even standard safety measures. Can you imagine how safe you can make your workplace with proactive safety products?

Once again, people are the most valuable asset of any company. What are you doing to keep your people safe?
